A security vulnerability has been identified in the Linux Kernel, the core underlying software that powers most of the servers used to run hosted websites. This is an out-of-bounds memory write flaw, a type of software bug that lets a user who already has basic, limited access to a server write data to protected parts of the server’s memory they are not authorized to reach.
If this flaw is exploited, the attacker could gain full, privileged control over the entire server, or crash the server entirely. A server crash would lead to temporary downtime for any websites hosted on that system.
